The Canon 1.4X III extender rental is designed for Canon L series telephoto lenses. This will allow you to increase the focal length of a telephoto lens by a factor of 1.4x. You will not suffer much, if any, image degradation. You will still see excellent quality images. The extender is ideal for nature, wildlife, and sports photographers who do not want to carry big and heave telephoto lenses, but still need to get close to distant subjects. If you are unsure of how far your focal length needs to be, this is an inexpensive piece of insurance.
The 1.4 III extender has a build quality you can expect from Canon. It is water and dust resistant and allows for shooting in extreme conditions. This will auto-focus with almost all Canon telephoto L series lenses.
Rent the 1.4x III extender with the Canon 100-400 Mark II or the Canon 70-200 IS II and you will not be disappointed. These will only work with Canon telephoto lenses.
